Our Teaching Philosophy

Our courses are not for the faint of heart! We say this, not to be insulting, but to identify for you just exactly what we are, AND, just exactly what we are not.

What we are: We ARE focused on your student’s education. A lot of home school courses today are watered down to either placate complaining students who are worried the material is too hard, or to accommodate worried parents who think they don’t know enough to teach the material without serious assistance.

We feel concerns like these are valid and important, which is why our courses are founded around helping both students AND parents. However, we also feel strongly that these concerns should not become excuses to water down key-subjects in the education of our kids. As parents, we are called to help our students. That call is not predicated by a certain level of ability or talent. Sometimes to educate well, we may get help from those around us and at other times, we may be the ones giving help to those around us. As part of the Body of Christ, we help each other, but we do it all (even education) for God’s glory.

That’s a pretty high standard.

We are committed to your student’s success and we will go out of our way to help in whatever way we can. We take very seriously our responsibility and obligation to produce quality products that will do more than merely transport your student from one grade-level to the next. We want them to learn and grow as individuals, being better prepared for their future once they have completed one of our courses.

After all, the material we are using is at the same level as the best private AND public school systems!

What we are not:

We are NOT out to make difficult courses.

Our courses are designed with the students AND parents in mind. They are not difficult, but they do take commitment. AskDrCallahan was started, as an effort to help our own kids get through high school, be well educated, and prepared for college and life in the best way possible. As a college professor at a major research university, Dr. Dale Callahan knows exactly what colleges are looking for and what students will need to know upon arriving at the college level. Professors will not cut you slack, and they will not lower standards to accommodate. Neither do we.

We hold high standards for our own kids, and the intensely researched, college-level course material we produce expects the same high standard from your students. They are not for the faint of heart.

When your students pass our courses, they will not wonder how it happened. They will know what they have accomplished. That “A” wasn't granted to them by the Home School Math Fairy. If they got an “A”, it is because they earned it.
