About Calculus 1

Calculus 1 is where math becomes the most real for students. Once you have reached this level of math you are able to really move into seeing the math as the fingerprint of God on the world around you. The textbook we use for this course does an excellent job of presenting material in a way that makes sense to students and parents alike. We at AskDrCallahan have come alongside this material to provide a DVD instructional set that helps students navigate through what is designed to be a college level course. This curriculum is exactly the same as what is being used at several major universities today, and we structure the class so that students are getting a college-level experience as well as college level mathematics. There is nothing harder or intentionally more difficult about a college level course, in fact we go out of our way to provide support to students throughout their career so that their Calculus experience can be one that is fun and enjoyable. 

The "college level" here represents the fact that we use curriculum currently in collegese today, but also that we do not water down material--as too many homeschool curriculums do---and we do not hand hold the student through each and every problem. On the dvds, we work examples, identify problem areas for students to pay attention to, and we highlight key homework problems. We expect students to be able to use this information, combined with the textbook and the Free Student Support (homework help) to figure out the problems which are not explicitly walked through on the DVD.

  • Disk 1 - Contains a PDF version the Teachers Guide which include the tests, the test grading guide, and the syllabus. It can be downloaded at the link above. The document is a PDF files to be used on your computer and printed as needed.
  • Disk 2 - DVD covering the introduction 
  • Disk 3 - DVD covering chapter 2.1 to 2.3 (Chapter 1 of the textbook is review and is not covered on the DVD)
